CELAC is a regional bloc of Latin American and Caribbean states proposed on February 23, 2010, at the Rio Group–Caribbean Community Unity Summit, and created on December 3, 2011.
Intro
CELAC is a successor to the Rio Group and the 2nd Latin American and Caribbean Summit (CALC). It is an inter-governmental mechanism for dialogue and political consultation of 33 independent Latin American and Caribbean states, designed to reaffirm the shared history and identity of Latin America and the Caribbean and serve as a common space for strengthening and deepening regional unity and integration.
